Baltimore County Public School Board Members Vote In Favor Of Post Labor Day School Start

this is WJZ breaking news hello run of the Carter and I'm break bread or we begin with breaking news tonight Barbara County Public Schools votes to keep the start of the upcoming school year after Labor Day WJZ is live at County school headquarters in Towson Kelsey Kershner with more on the decision from the board Kelsey well Vic tonight the board members said that they received a lot of feedback from both teachers and from parents about changing that start date tonight they voted to keep the start of that academic year after Labor Day should Baltimore County schools start before or after Labor Day weekend the question went out to the public and Tuesday night new home comu the feedback fueled the Board's decision Baltimore County school board members voted on a third option brought to the table Tuesday night keeping the start date of the academic year Tuesday September 3rd and ending Friday June 19th but giving students 10 days of Spring Break using Presidents Day in Easter Monday as provisional to weather days I think for families starting after Labor Day is a far better option and lets everybody enjoy their summer and spend more family time together the vote comes nearly three years after Governor Hogan signed an executive order requiring all public schools start after Labor Day benefiting tourism in Ocean City and attendance at the state fair but the General Assembly overturned his order earlier this year the school board opened the vote up to the public offering only two options either starting the school year before Labor Day with a 10-day Spring Break or starting after with a six-day Spring Break if approved by the state the board's third option would give students the best of both options I think that it's really good for teachers and students have a longer Spring Break it's really good and refreshing for everybody and the board says that if the state does not approve their third option they will then go back to the second option and that is also starting the school year after Labor Day but instead only having a six-day spring break reporting live tonight in Baltimore County Kelsey Kirchner for WJZ
