Family Vacation | Family Style

– What’s our lunch agenda today is not– – The lunch agenda is that
I think it would be nice if we all took a family trip. – [Mike] Really? – I like that idea. – [Mike] What? What do you mean by that? – A fun trip, not a boring trip. – A family trip with the kids. – We’re the McDivitt family. We run a law firm together in Colorado. – Working together can
have it’s challenges. – But at the end of the
day we’re still family. – We work together. – We celebrate together. – We build traditions together. – And we eat together. – [David] This is Family
Style with the McDivitts. So my sister suggested
taking a family vacation. It’s actually a great idea
because I can’t remember the last time that we
took a family vacation. It’s been awhile. – I love Lisa’s idea of a family vacation. I think that’s exactly what we need. – When Lisa suggested
that, I did know we were in for a rough ride because it’s
not gonna happen overnight. Why don’t we go to Gettysburg? We haven’t been to that battleship. – [Mom] The kids aren’t old enough. – Dad, dad seriously. – When I first suggested it I was thinking for sure Disneyland, maybe a cruise. I definitely wasn’t expecting Gettysburg. – Do you know what my five
year old is gonna think of America’s bloodiest battle site? – Your five year old is
already talking about Star Wars and the battle of the forces
out there in the big inter– – You’re missing the point. – Gettysburg is America’s Star Wars. (laughing) – Uh. – Did my dad really just say Gettysburg is America’s Star Wars? – Relaxation, what is our idea of this? I feel like we each clearly
have a different idea of what a good vacation– – The battle of Shiloh,
you know what that means? – So my dad is a history nut. – Mike is obsessed with American history. – You should have just
called mom with this idea. – I think we can all agree
we’re not big beach goers. – I want to go, I like the beach. And when was the last time I
was on the beach on a vacation? I think I would enjoy just
being on the beach relaxing and not doing anything. – I know the perfect
beach, Normandy Beach. Let’s go to France, to Normandy. They can learn about history
there and also walk the beach. That’s where World War
II Star Wars took place. – I don’t like beaches ’cause they’re hot. I can’t read on a beach ’cause the sun’s always too bright. And you get sand everywhere. – Well you took David’s
kids to Disneyland. – I like Disneyland. – Yeah, we’d like to
go back to Disneyland. – Okay let’s go somewhere
where David hasn’t already been with you guys. – You know when we go on
a trip, one of the things that really concerns me every time, it’s just David will take everything, including the kitchen sink. – Do you remember when we took that trip? – [David] The one to Las Vegas? – And your one suitcase was overweight because the entire thing
was filled with shoes. – Shoes. – David will pack a suitcase to the brim. – On a typical trip I might
pack four pairs of shoes. – People don’t care about
a guy’s shoes that much. – You’ve got what I would call
your utility shoes, right, your gym shoes. So that’s one pair. – On a weekend trip I would
pack two pairs of shoes, maybe three if I know I’m
going out to a nice dinner. – You’ve got your daily travel shoes. – You wear a pair of shoes on the plane. And then you put two in your suitcase. – Dress shoes if you’re
gonna wear a nicer outfit. – I wear one pair of shoes and I pack one. – And then I might bring another pair of general walking shoes. – And it just isn’t essential. – Frankly, I blame GQ Magazine. – I’m an expert packer. – [Lisa] An expert over packer. – You want to ask me what I find relaxing? – [Lisa] What do you find relaxing? – Not going on a vacation with you. – (laughing) well that’s fair. Does anyone want to know what relaxes me? – [Karen] Yes
– Sure, what relaxes you? – Oh thanks for asking David. – [David] I genuinely want to know. – Uh, so here’s what I would enjoy. Someone, like you, hangs out with my kids while I go to a spa. – [David] Okay. – Let’s go to Ireland, we
haven’t been to Ireland. – Once again, who wants to
take an international flight with a 15 month old. – [Karen] Mm hmm, good point. – Honestly, maybe Gettysburg
isn’t such a bad idea. – I told you so. – Okay, we’ll just to a movie. – Okay, let’s do that.
– Yeah, all right. – [Karen] All right. – I hope it’s a movie about Gettysburg. (upbeat music)
