Local families attend Wellbeing Hub launch and family fun session

Are you having fun? Yes. I’mGeorge Plenderleith, I’m the chief
executive of improving Lives Plymouth it’s about again getting people who
don’t normally come on to the site to the local area to say, come along have a
bit of fun, see what we do and talk to them about what works for them in
this area, what doesn’t work. This is an exciting development for us, you know
to be you know to be working more closely with local community and
actually we want them to get together to do things that they normally
wouldn’t do. We run a number of services in the city centre and in Mannamead, and
up in this site we’re doing things for people with sensory impairments, people
who are carers, and people who have learning disabilities, so there’s a whole
range activities. This is the third hub that I’ve been involved in and we have a
plan to open several across the city. It’s really important that we get some
settled in North of the city and also that we look at the needs of each community. The
important part of the well-being pub is to relieve some of the pressures on our
acute health system, so we’re together with Public Health supporting people
having alternative areas to get support and help, not to get treatment but to get
support and help and to get information to lead them to alternative
ways of dealing with some of the more social problems that most communities
are suffering with at the moment
