The 311 Weekend for May 18 – May 20

The 311 Weekend for May 18 – May 20

Hello, and welcome to the 311 Weekend, I’m
Laura and I’ll be your guide to New York City sponsored events and services happening
in the next three days. Before we begin: Remember, the Jewish holiday
of Shavuot is Sunday and Monday, that means that Alternate Side Parking will be suspended
on Monday, the 21st. Parking meters will remain in effect. Alright, now onto the weekend. Remember, the events I talk about are free
and the details are at the onscreen link. First: It’s Shredfest. a citywide event that aims to increase public
awareness about identity theft prevention. Come by this Saturday & Sunday at locations
in ALL 5 boroughs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Bring old bank statements, papers with personal
info, credit card applications, and more to be safely and securely destroyed. Second: It’s another Summer on the Hudson
event, The Sweet Spot Festival, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday. At this family-friendly gathering of community,
culture and music, you can enjoy Reggae, Soulful House, Disco, and Afro-Beat spun by a collection
of renowned DJs. Put on your dancing shoes! Third: It’s Bronx Week! A borough-wide celebration of the best of
the Bronx, and this Sunday is the Parade, Food & Arts Festival, and Concert! There will be celebrities, marching bands,
sports teams, and more at the Parade, hand-crafted snacks and specialty items from Bronx-based
artists at the Festival, and later a cool concert. Finally: If you have a medical condition made
worse by heat you could qualify for a free air conditioner under the Cooling Assistance
Program. A/C units are provided on a first come, first
serve basis, and you must meet HEAP income guidelines and have at least 1 family member
who suffers from a heat-related problem. Well that’s a wrap! Thanks for joining us and we’ll see you
next weekend.
